The audience can take part in two concerts and professional performances at the 13th Cantemus Festival and Master Course, which will take place between June 20th and July 10th.

The series of events, which will move to the online space in an unusual way, will be held in Nyíregyháza.

Cantemus wants to continue with great energy and old faith, since it was forced to stop due to the coronavirus epidemic – Dénes Szabó, the choir’s director-conductor, referred to the virus situation at the press conference announcing the festival on Thursday.

The Kossuth and Liszt Prize-winning music teacher recalled that he had spent three weeks in the county hospital himself due to the illness, at which point he came up with the idea that he should somehow thank the health care workers caring for coronavirus patients. That’s why the charity concert series was invented, on which people can watch the concert of international choirs, a memorial concert and the traditional professional master class on the Internet – Dénes Szabó explained the details.

Conductor Soma Szabó, artistic director of Cantemus, said that choirs from the Philippines, Taiwan, Russia, Estonia and Sweden will present their choral repertoire at the international concert on June 20th. The music compilation will be available online at any time during the festival.

The other program, which will take place on June 28th, will be rather for the people of Nyíregyháza. This event will also be made available on the Internet, and by purchasing tickets, the audience can support the operation of the coronavirus department of the county hospital, noted Soma Szabó.

All events of the program series and the master course can be viewed at www.cantemusfestival.org.hu.

Zita Szabó, the director general of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Hospitals and University training hospital said at the press conference that from the proceeds of the concert the medical institution would like to buy tools and equipment to help patient care.
